At Gramphoo we decided to change course and head towards Spiti.  To get there we ended up cycling (and pushing!) our bikes up a rough road alongside some of the most desolate and beautiful scenery that I have ever seen.

While heading up the 5300 mtr. high Taglang La, we continually stopped to rest and catch our breath while being watched by young Indian road workers.  They just smiled at us and continued breaking stones into gravel (by hand).
